Soaring Past Your Doubts and Fear of Failure to Achieve Your Goals

In March 2025, I began sharing insights and actionable tips on social media to assist leaders and aspiring leaders with goal setting. On March 27, I posted “4 Steps to Align Goals with Vision,” and received an impassioned question: Can I get more info on this? Putting actionable tasks into reality. Doubt of failure!”

Today, I'm thrilled to delve deeper into strategies to conquer doubts and fears, ensuring that you achieve your goals, whether it's writing a book, improving your credit score, boosting your team's performance, or automating a business process.

Here are my seven (7) powerful tips to overcome doubts and fears when working towards your goals:

  1. Get clear on where you are and where you want to be: While it seems intuitive, many people focus on problems instead of establishing a clear vision of their current state and desired outcome. Take deliberate time to map out your present situation and your goals.

  2. Identify specific goals, objectives, tasks, or outcomes: Spend time clearly defining your goals, as this will reveal internal strengths and weaknesses that can aid or hinder your progress.

  3. Leverage what’s already going well: Combat negative thoughts by deliberately recalling and celebrating past successes. This positive reinforcement will bolster your confidence.

  4. Understand your ‘why’: Your ‘why’ is your driving force. When setbacks occur, it will keep you motivated. Be clear and convinced why your goals are important to you.

  5. Set realistic, self-initiated goals: Goals should be positive, self-directed, and achievable within your timeframe. Even if goals are handed down by superiors, create personal tasks that lead to achieving those goals. Be mindful and balanced when setting timelines to avoid underestimating the effort required.

  6. Visualize your goal: Envision what you will see, hear, and feel upon achieving your goal. This mental exercise keeps you motivated and provides a tangible sense of accomplishment.

  7. Establish a reminder habit: Create a routine or ritual to reconnect with your ‘why’. Whether it's a daily affirmation, a regular progress check, or a prayer, these reminders will reinforce control, confidence, and reduce doubts and fears.
